LADDER AND STILTS SAFETY TRAINING COURSE OUTLINE
The course covers the following topics:
1. INTRODUCTION
This chapter discusses the importance of examining the equipment before use, the primary goal of the training and the learning objectives of the course.

2. LEGISLATION
This chapter explains:

1. The requirements for type and use of ladders
2. The physical measurements (such as length) to follow
3. The specific structure of design

3. LADDER INSPECTION
Ladder inspection refers to the systematic examination and evaluation of a ladder’s condition to ensure its safety and functionality. In this chapter, you will learn about the defects of ladders to be inspected in order to tag them for repair or replacement. These defects include:

1. Missing or loose steps or rungs
2. Damaged or worn non-slip feet
3. Loose nails
4. Screws
5. Bolts or nuts
6. Locks
7. Other metal parts in poor condition

4. LADDER TYPES
Ladder types refer to the various designs and configurations of portable, often extendable, structures used for ascending or descending between different levels or heights. This chapter illustrates the four main types of ladders: portable ladders, step ladders, extension ladders and fixed access ladders.

5. LADDER SAFETY
Ladder safety refers to a set of principles, guidelines, and practices designed to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries when using ladders. This chapter covers in detail the ladder safety precautions to be taken for the four main ladder types, various safety tips and the do’s and don’ts in using these types of ladders.

6. STILTS
Stilts are specialized devices designed as elongated supports worn on the legs to elevate the user above ground level. In this chapter, you will learn about:

1. Purposes of usage when stilts are used for residential units
2. Guidelines of manufacture in accordance with Regulation 213/91.
3. Required conditions when stilts are used on a work surface
4. Modifications needed if stilts are used in a work area that requires a guardrail system.

7. STILTS TRAINING PROGRAM
In this chapter, learn about the requirements and regulations related to the training program on safe and proper use of stilts. This chapter lists out the accurate instructions to be provided in the training program on maintaining, servicing, and storing stilts.

8. DO’S AND DON’TS
In this chapter, a comprehensive list of do’s and don’ts is presented for the use of stilts before workers attempt to learn to walk on them.

9. PRACTICAL TRAINING CHECKLIST
At the end of the course, a practical training checklist for the supervisor to record appropriate practical training requirements.
